All you need to know about engagement sessions!

Updated: Jan 29

Not a fan of being in front of the camera? Love being in front of the camera? Not even sure what to expect when working with a photographer? Whether you or your other half are camera shy, or you love getting dressed up and taking photos, an engagement session is a great opportunity for all types of couples to have some professional photos.

Not only will you get some lovely photos to put up in your home, it's an opportunity to experience what it's like to have your photos taken before your big day. It's also a great time to get to know me a little better, see how I work and get familiar with each other before your wedding.

We can decide together on the right location depending on the time of year, weather forecast and what would be a natural environment for you. I personally love to get outdoors and whichever season we are in, there is always something to be offered in England. Whether that is soft vibrant greens and evening summer sun, or golden autumn leaves, to snowy fields! You can decide on which season works best for you, perhaps it would be nice to have photos with a different landscape to that of the month you're getting married in?

If there is somewhere special to you, for example where you got engaged (if its local), we can go here and I can scout the best spots for photos. Alternatively, two of the places I often choose are Virginia Water Lakes and Dinton Pastures. They both have woodlands, fields and lakes which makes three great backdrops for your photos.

I recommend that we do a casual look and a dressier look, but again this is completely up to you! The most important thing about the session is that you feel comfortable and just be yourself so that when you look back at the photos they feel authentic. I'm not a fan of overly posed images which is why I nearly always ask you to look at each other and not me. I give subtle hints and tell you what to do if something doesn't look right and I always welcome your suggestions for photos.

So how much will this session cost you? I offer engagement shoots for just £150 to the couples that have already booked me for their wedding, or £250 for those who haven't. You will receive an online gallery with all of the high res images ready to download, print and share as you please.

Decide what time of year you want to have your engagement session? The above photos are taken in the Spring and the blow are taken in the Autumn. All seasons have something to offer whether its bright greens or deep orange colour tones. Perhaps it would be nice to have a photoshoot at a different time of the year to the season you're getting married?

Once you've had your engagement session you can have your photos made into a wedding guest book for all of your friends and family to leave messages for you! Get in touch to enquire about prices.
